Today we visited the Dulwich Picture Gallery with the very jolly Goodwin family, who also missed the school trip due to the same sicky bug. We had an enjoyable time looking at the paintings. Alexei chuckled a lot at all the fat cherubs showing their "dinkies", (I think the Goodwin girls were rather bemused), but I must confess I had an ulterior motive for this trip . . .
In Dulwich there is the most sublime sweet shop you could ever imagine. I had dreamt for many moons about visiting this grand emporium of delights (actually it's rather small inside).
Candy shrimps, fairy pillows, rose and violet cremes (my particular favourite), sweetie necklaces, chocolate kittens. All in the most beautiful old fashioned packaging. Oh, I could go on and on!
Here's a taster (well, unfortunately not a real one).
Of course there was a lot of scoffing on the way home and while handing round "Artisan Violet Cremes', Lucy gave them her full approval and her husband Michael said "Yuk, it's like eating PERFUME!" It must be a girl-thing.
When I got home, this was the scene that greeted me.
Roland has taken down the ceiling in the bathroom. Well, I knew we were going for a re-furb but I didn't expect total annihilation. I am going to retire to a quiet corner to eat the rest of my violet cremes.
Maybe it won't be there next time I look.
