poor housekeeping
But I have a medical condition, don't you know?
I am domestically disabled. You'd have thought I'd have got a bit better at all this as I've had long enough to practice.
I love working from home but the house does suffer from my poor housekeeping. I hate dust, fluff and anything sticky (blee!) but I'm terribly untidy. So is Roland. He thinks it is perfectly acceptable to leave huge power tools on the dining room table. And our house is teeny tiny so if one room is being renovated it means a lot of stuff displaced.
Examples of poor house husbandry include:
Drawers full of bin liners that don't fit the kitchen bin
(grrr rrr!)
A complete inability to understand curtain hooks and tracks (much scratching of head and fruitless trips to the shops)
Cupboards full of lightbulbs that don't fit any lights due to bayonet/screw confusion. Add to that a low energy bulb confusion which means sometimes I am trying to feel my way across a room that is so dimly lit that I then trip over one of the discarded powertools.
The house is spectacularly messy at the moment.
The bathroom floor is being laid (a whole year after the bathroom was started) so all the bathroom fittings are sitting in Alexei's bedroom and his new carpet will be fitted on Monday. We have dismantled his iron bedstead and he is sleeping on a mattress on the floor. It gives the impression of a rather squalid squat. Alexei likes it: "it's like camping, mum". I'll post pictures next week when we're a bit less topsy turvey.
Roland and I have been married for 10 years this month. I'm not sure what 10 years symbolises, probably something boring like . . .lightbulbs or bin liners.
10 years of happy married life.
You'd get less for murder.
P.S. Here's a close up of the pixie shelf edging. I've got some new printable canvas . . . It's fantastic to print on. A new obsession looms!

Sweet cupboard! I love everything in it and on it!

I am in luuuurve with the shelf edging, are you going to sell it? And how come you know exactly the right amount of "stuff" to display? I just cram all mine in, and then go and buy more!
I'm laughing at the Roland situation, at least he knows how to use a power tool. Ian just looks at ours, scratches his head in a slightly sad way and walks away. Which leaves it to me and my gung-ho attitude!
Have a lovely weekend!

I know how you feel.I am constantly fighting to keep the kitchen table clear from bags, letters, books etc etc etc.No power tools though as hubby doesn't do DIY. He's handy with a sledge hammer or chain saw though!
Love the shelf edging are you going to sell it? Ummm now where could I put some?!

I forgot to say that I think your worrying about how clear your gorgeous house is rubbish, it's just lovely the way it is. And looked fresh, clean and welcoming when I came round.

Your hub sounds just like mine, chuckle. Uses the screwdrivers then never puts them back in the toolbox so they lie all over the house! Lovely shelf edging, looks great in your little cupboard.

Congrats on the 10 years :o) Lovely shelf, too! I'm sure all the house stuff will come together, soon. It can be overwhelming looking at everything messy all at once. It helps me to try and just do one thing at a time... like clean out one cupboard, or corner, or shelf... little accomplishments. You're doing a fantastic job!

I laughed so much because I was recognizing some signs of bad house keeping. And I like so much homemaking! But I would like to be a better homemaker.

Congratulations on making 10 years together! The fun starts here! My husband and I waited until our 10th anniversary before we even got married (just in case!)! My mother-in-law gave up waiting and for most of that time she simply introduced herself to people as my 'mother-outlaw'! We have now been married for 9 years so I feel the need for another excuse for a big party! Maybe a divorce?! :-) Beautiful shelf edging and LOVE those picture boxes!

I am there with you! I have a nice little craft room but the living room ends us cluttered with fabric and stuffing and all kinds of crafty stuff. I love that shelf by the way. I am looking for something like that to display my special finds. Great Blog!
